CPIMS were delighted to be one of the sponsors of the Law Festival ‘Invisibly Different’, which was Headway Lancaster and Morecambe Bay very first brain injury conference. The conference took place at the Lancaster House Hotel, on 17th – 18th June 2016 . CPIMS have been involved in supporting the group for the last 5 years and we were proud to be amongst such an amazing group of individuals.

The action packed day treated the delegates to a range of interesting speakers, which included:

  • Mr Michael Redfern QC, St Johns chambers discussed the history of Headway.
  • Phillip Grundy with an interesting and informative presentation about vulnerable witnesses and giving evidence.
  • Louise Sheffield, an intermediary spoke about her role assisting vulnerable witnesses in the court process.
  • Philip Grundy and Lorraine Cavanagh from St Johns Chambers gave an interesting presentation on Capacity and the role of Deputy’s.

The whole audience was left very emotional after listening to Kate Allate, the CPIMS guest speaker. Kate, spoke about her experience following her remarkable recovery from ‘Locked in Syndrome’ and left the delegates with some very thought provoking facts about her experience.

There was also speed networking events interspersed between the presentations which provided delegates with a good opportunity to introduce themselves. This enabled the team to share information about their roles and services when working with people with an acquired brain injury.

It was a great turnout for the evening event and BBQ, which was attended by members of Headway Lancaster and Morecambe Bay. The band ‘Pleural Tap’, all of whom are employed by the NHS and support charity events, certainly kept the atmosphere lively and entertained the guests into the early hours.

CPIMS were delighted to be invited to attend the ‘Invisibly Different’, Brain Injury Conference. It was also good to meet and converse with other delegates. CPIMS look forward to having the opportunity work together with these delegates in the future.
