The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
Every Employer has a duty to care under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974. You must display the HSE Health & Safety Law poster at your work premises. It isn't possible to cover every aspect of Health & Safety Legislation because the subject is so vast but we aim to help you address the very basic needs to protect you, your patient, and your staff. We can't stress how important it is that you read the literature and aim to comply with current legislation.
- Safe Premises and Work Equipment
As an employer you must ensure your work premises are safe and adequately equipped for your employees. All manual handling equipment such as hoists should be serviced every 6 months. If you are purchasing new equipment ensure you purchase a service agreement that complies with the PUWER 1998 Regulations.
- Home Safety Checks - Gas & Electricity Supplies
Your home should be assessed for hazards and control measures implemented to reduce the risks as appropriate. Your gas and electricity supplies should be tested every year. The gas board will be able to service your heating boiler and gas apparatus. There are a number of companies that test electrical supplies and equipment. Electratest are one of those companies able to service all your electrical equipment and they operate nationwide.
- Fire Safety Equipment and First Aid Supplies
You may need to purchase a fire extinguisher, a fire blanket for the kitchen, safety signs, an accident book, a HSE Health & Safety Law Poster and a first aid kit.
